Everest Base Camp Trek - Nepal

Nepal trekking routes prove that you don’t have to be an extreme mountain climber in order to experience the Himalayas. One of the best examples of this is the Everest Base Camp Trek route.

Trekking to the Everest Base Camp enables you to soak in all the beauty that Mt. Everest has to offer without having to climb it. On this trek, you will follow the initial steps of Tenzing and Hillary in their quest to conquer the highest mountain peak in the world. You will have the chance to experience the diversity of culture of the people living in the area and the spectacular nature surrounding this area. That being said, it is not a surprise that the Everest Base Camp trek has been listed as one of the most famous trekking routes in Nepal and the world.

The route begins either in Lukla or Jiri, depending on whether you will decide to fly to Lukla or travel by bus to Jiri. It usually takes 12-14 days to complete the trek, although walking from Jiri would add 5-6 days to the usual duration. The highlights of the trek are so numerous that it is almost impossible to mention just a few, but the ancient Buddhist monastery of Tengboche, the oldest in the region, the astonishing views of the Everest range from Kalapathhar and of course, the Everest Base Camp itself are impossible to leave out.

Doing this trek means spending many days on a high altitude, meaning that taking the precautions for altitude sickness seriously is mandatory, but our team will always be there to remind you that safety comes first and help you with any difficulties. All you will have to do is step up the trail, relax and enjoy some of the most spectacular journeys you could take on Earth!

  • View the mighty Himalaya Mountain range on the flight to Lukla.
  • Amazing Views of Mount Everest, Amadablam from Everest View Hotel
  • Explore Sherpa villages and Monasteries
  • Set out on challenging Hike to Kala Pattar (18,192') and Everest Base Camp (17,590')
  • Trek to the foot of breathtaking Mount Everest- the world’s highest mountain.

Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival Day

Upon arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our staff will wait for you with a private vehicle and will transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Depending on your time of arrival and whether you are tired or not, you can go around in the tourist hub in Thamel and do some shopping or just enjoy the busy streets of the city. You will stay at the hotel overnight and prepare for the big adventure waiting for you in the following days.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Lukla by flight and trek to Phakding (2610 m)

In the morning our staff will pick you up from your hotel and drop you at the domestic terminal at the airport where you will board on a flight to Lukla (2804m). The duration of the flight is very short (a bit more than 30 minutes) but many travelers list it as one of the highlights of the trip. The airport in Lukla has a short runway which makes the experience a true adrenaline rush. The flight is safe so all you have to do is enjoy the ride and be amazed by the splendid views of the Himalayan range (including Mount Everest) from up above. After the short flight and a break we will proceed with a short trek to Phakding (2610m). The trek is almost always downhill and it’s the perfect way to get you started for the long days of trekking that await you. In Phakding you will spend the night at a trekking lodge.

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m)

We will rise quite early and have breakfast at our lodge, upon which we will start walking to Namche Bazaar (3441m). This will be our daily routine for the duration of the trek. Walking in the morning is always better as it allows us to reach our destination early in the day, enjoy spectacular views of the mountains (which are always better in the mornings) and not feel time pressure. The trail to Namche Bazaar is quite steep and it lasts for approximately 5 hours, but nonetheless enjoyable as we will walk through dense forests and exposing ridges. Namche Bazaar is a small hub in the Everest region and a charming little town. If you feel like doing some shopping for mountain gear or Sherpa handicrafts, you can do it in Namche. We will stay in Namche overnight at a trekking lodge.

Day 4: Day for acclimatization at Namche

Today’s day is solely reserved for acclimatization that is a must in order to proceed to Everest Base Camp. However, acclimatization almost never means sitting around and doing nothing (unless of course you are too tired from the previous days). It is always advisable to move on the acclimatization day which will allow your body to get used to the altitude better. There are many day trips that you can take in Namche’s vicinity. One of them is the short hike to Syangboche Everest View Hotel where you can enjoy a fantastic view of Mount Everest, Amadablam, Thamserku and Lhotse. After this we will hike back to our lodge in Namche and stay there overnight.

Day 5: Trek to Tengboche (3860 m)

After breakfast we will start walking to Tengboche monastery – an endeavor that will take us around 5 hours. Situated at an altitude of 3,867 meters, this Tibetan monastery is the largest one in the Khumbu region. It lies in the village of Khumjung, surrounded by the Everest mountain range. Upon arrival, you will be able to enjoy the serenity of this holy place and its surroundings. Moreover, you will have the chance to learn more about Buddhism. In the night, we will stay at a trekking lodge.

Day 6: Trek to Dingboche (4410 m)

Today’s destination is the village of Dingboche, lying at an altitude of 4350 meters. The trek usually lasts around 6 hours. Dingboche is a small village of the Sherpa community famous for its magnificent views of the Himalayan range. After a tiring trek, we will be able to relax and enjoy those views. We will stay at a trekking lodge for the night.

Day 7: Another Acclimatization day at Dingboche (4410 m)

This is our second and last acclimatization day on this trip. In order to keep our bodies up and moving, we will hike to Chukking valley and enjoy the experience being completely surrounded by mountains. Going there and back to Dingboche takes 4 hours meaning you will have enough time to rest and prepare for the next couple of days.

Day 8: Trek to Lobuche (4940 m)

Today’s trek will lead us to Lobuche (4,940m) – one of the last overnight stops until Everest Base Camp. Lobuche is surrounded by several peaks that bear the same name, making the trek into the village spectacular. In the night we will stay at a trekking lodge.

Day 9: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364 m) via Gorakshep

Today is certainly the most exciting day from the whole journey. Starting early in the morning we will be headed to Everest Base Camp. The trek to the Base Camp is a magnificent experience in itself, but once you are there, you will feel like you are on the top of the world. We will stop at the base camp for a longer break, where you can take photographs, meet fellow trekkers and perhaps talk with some of the mountaineers headed to Mt. Everest. It is one of the most multicultural experiences in the world, that too on such a high altitude! After a great day at the Base Camp, we will trek back to Gorak Shep where we will spend the night at a trekking lodge.

Day 10: Hike to Kalapathar and back to the lodge then return to Phiriche (4200 m)

One more day of adventure! Today we will trek to Kalapatthar (5555m) which offers the best sunrise views of Mt. Everest and then trek back to Phiriche (4200m) where we will stay overnight at a trekking lodge.

Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazaar

Today we are beginning our descent to Lukla, stopping at Namche Bazaar for the night (6 hours).

Day 12: Trek to Lukla via Phakding

We will start trekking back to Lukla where we will stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 13: Morning Fly back to Kathmandu

Early in the morning we will catch a flight to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu you will be free to roam around for the rest of the day or relax in one of the many cafes and restaurants in town. Overnight at a hotel.

Day 14: Spare day in Kathmandu

Depending on whether we had to wait or not at the airport in Lukla, you will have this day as a free day in Kathmandu to explore the city and the valley. Overnight at a hotel.
